Primary election

The Primary Election is held in even numbered years on the first Tuesday in June. Voters choose who the Democratic nominee will be for the General Election. Before elections, candidates who have achieved ballot access are available on our website on a page named “Candidates.”

The Story County Democrats do not endorse primary candidates. Their campaigns are run by the candidates’ committees, not the Story County Democrats.

Basic information for candidates such as how to form a committee and legal requirements for campaign finance reporting can be found on the Secretary of State’s website here- https://sos.iowa.gov/elections/candidates/index.html

general election

The General Election is held in even numbered years on the first Tuesday in November. U.S. Representatives and Iowa Representative are elected every 2 years. Please don’t skip important midterm elections! They are vital to building Democratic representation in Washington
DC and in the Iowa House. After Primary Elections, our “Candidates” page is updated to note who the nominee is for the General Election.

 CITY/SCHOOL ELECTIONS

City/School Elections are held in odd numbered years on the first Tuesday in November. Even if you live outside city limits and are not eligible to vote in city elections, everyone lives in a school district and may vote in that election. These are important elections that affect our local communities. These are nonpartisan elections and the Story County Democrats do not endorse or fund candidates.

See the Secretary of State website for the 3 year Election Calendar.

See the Story County Auditor website for voting and election information.
