2026 Caucus

  • Ames High School Gym (map)

All Story County Precincts will meet at the Ames High School Gym.

Registration opens at 6 pm with the Caucus beginning at 7 pm.

Any Democrat registered to vote in Story County may participate. If you need to register to vote or update your voter address or party affiliation, please do so NOW online at
https://mymvd.iowadot.gov/Account/Login?ReturnUrl=/VoterRegistration

Voter registration will also be available at the Caucus. Those not eligible to register to vote, such as non-residents, young people, press, or others, may attend as observers.

This is the first step in the Caucus to Convention process.  At the Caucus, each Precinct will choose representatives to serve on the Story County Democratic Central Committee. Then Delegates and Alternates will be chosen for each Precinct to serve at the County Convention on March 21. Attendees may submit Platform Planks for consideration of the Platform Committee to be included in our new 2026 Platform.  Delegates may choose to join one of the Convention Committees:

The Arrangements Committee is responsible for helping set up Convention and compiling the reports of the other committees into the Convention Book.

The Credentials Committee is responsible for verifying the credentials of the Delegates and Alternates to the County Convention and staffing the registration at Convention.

The Platform Committee is responsible for reviewing the platform planks submitted at the Caucus for potential inclusion of the new 2026 Platform. They will write and update the Platform for ratification of the County Delegates at the County Convention. Their first meeting is Feb. 7th at 9 am in the PEO Room of the Ames Public Library.

The Rules Committee is responsible for writing the Rules of Convention and overseeing and counting ballots of the elections held at Convention.
