Capital City Pride Parade

  • East Village East Grand Avenue Des Moines, IA United States (map)

Capital City Pride is coming up and we're proud to announce that we will be joining the Polk County Democrats in the parade! We'd love to have a BIG showing of Democrats.

If you would like to attend, please use the signup link below. NOTE that you have to submit the form and THEN you will get a page where you can choose to be a parade walker. It's all the way at the bottom. Please don't choose booth volunteers because we aren't partners in their booth.

When details are announced about where and when to meet for the parade lineup, you will receive an email from the Polk County Democrats. The parade begins at Noon, but lineup will begin at 10. The staging area is at the corner of E 14th and Des Moines St, and you’ll see parking options highlighted in green on the map. Please try to arrive by 11:15 am so you can find the group and we can get everyone lined up and ready to go together. Parking will be at a premium, with the Capitol grounds parking lots being used for staging. An option is to park further downtown in the parking ramps and take the bus to the Capitol.

We will have a carpool meeting in the NW corner of the parking lot at Lowes off of S. Duff Ave. We need to meet at 9 am. By the time we decide who is riding with who and get downtown, it would be about 10. Drivers will drop riders off, park and make their way to the staging point. (I don't think it's necessary for everyone to be there a full 2 hours before the parade begins, but we do need to allow ample time to find the group.) When drivers arrive at the staging area, they need to make sure to connect with their riders so they can walk together to where they're parked after the parade.

You are welcome to bring issue signs to carry. Don't forget sunscreen and your water bottle.
