STORY DEMS CELEBRATE THE BEST OF IOWA AT SOUP SUPPER
Story County Democrats highlighted the positive at a “Best of Iowa” soup supper and club reception in Ames next Saturday (Jan. 30).
Special guests included Lt. Gov. Patty Judge, 4th District congressional candidate Bill Maske, agriculture secretary candidate Francis Thicke and U.S. Senate candidates Tom Fiegen and Bob Krause.
The gathering focused on the many achievements of the state legislature, the Iowa courts system and Gov. Chet Culver over the past three years., including:
- Increasing the minimum wage
- Implementing a state-wide smoking ban
- Extending health care to all children
- Maintaining a Triple-A bond rating
- Cracking down on predatory lending
- Expanding stem cell research
- Raising teacher pay
- Achieving marriage equality
More than 160 guests attended the soup supper, held at Collegiate United Methodist Church, 2622 Lincoln Way.
A reception proceeded the supper at the Iowa House Historic Inn, 405 Hayward Ave., beginning at 4 p.m.
“We had more than three dozen tasty soups at the big event, along with a variety of breads and side dishes,” Jan Bauer, Story County Democratic Party chair, said.
Music was provided by The Barn Owl Band.
