TOPIC: The book "The Big Con: The True Story of How Washington Got Hoodwinked and Hijacked by Crackpot Economics" by Jonathan Chait.
FACILITATOR: Jackie Runyan
Jonathan Chait gives us the history on how U.S. politics has been taken over by a group of right wing extremists who see tax cuts for the rich as an all-purpose cure for what ails the economy. This emphasis on supply side economics has moved to center stage in the Republican Party, once concerned about deficits, inflation and the size of government spending. This ideology has transformed the tax code, increased the gulf between the haves and the have nots and has resulted in the meltdown of our economy.
